Bourbon Red Turkey Tom
The Bourbon Red turkey originally came from Pennsylvania, and was a lighter buff color. They then went to Bourbon County, Kentucky where they bred them for a darker color. This is now what is known as the Bourbon Reds of today. They are a deep red to chestnut color with white wings, and a white tail with a red band through it. They were admitted to the APA Standards in 1909. This is a true breeding variety. The mature weights for this bird is 33 lbs. for toms and 18 lbs. for the hens. This is a very popular bird.
